Ryzen 5 7640HS Specifications
BGA6 cores / 12 threads
Released April 30, 2023
The six-core member of AMD's Ryzen 7040 mobile family: six Zen 4 cores and 12 threads boost to 5GHz from a notably high 4.3GHz base, with 16MB of L3 cache. Radeon 760M graphics — a smaller GPU than the 780M on its 8-core siblings — pair with the same 35W-54W configurable TDP. Built on 4nm process technology under the Phoenix codename, it launched in April 2023.

How to choose a desktop CPUA chip's socket decides what it can go into; cores, cache and TDP decide what you actually get once it's installed. How many CPU cores you actually needWhy more cores is not more speed, how gaming and productivity ask for cores differently, and why a core count alone never ranks two chips. When a CPU price is actually goodWhy a chip's list price and discount percentage tell you little, what a processor's price does over its life, and how to read its tracked history.Laptop CPU vs desktop CPUA mobile chip with the same core count is not the same processor — what the power envelope changes, and why these parts carry no price.
