Ryzen 7 7840HS Specifications

BGA8 cores / 16 threads

Released April 30, 2023

One tier down from the 7940HS in AMD's Ryzen 7040 mobile lineup: the same eight Zen 4 cores, 16 threads and 16MB of L3 cache, with a 5.1GHz boost against that chip's 5.2GHz from a slightly lower 3.8GHz base. Radeon 780M graphics and the 35W-54W configurable TDP carry over unchanged, on the same 4nm Phoenix silicon. AMD's page does not state an exact launch date beyond the fourth quarter of 2023.

What owners and reviewers say

Summarised from 1 source(s), reviewed September 14, 2026. A source is counted only where it names this model exactly. How we track prices

Commonly praised

  • Reviewers found it a very capable eight-core/16-thread Zen 4 laptop processor with performant Radeon 780M integrated graphics.
  • It ran well on Linux, and its higher 35-54W power envelope allowed more aggressive clocks than the 7840U variant.

Commonly criticised

  • At the time of review it lacked Ryzen AI support.
