WD My Passport Spec and Price in Canada
My Passport is WD's polished portable line: a 2.5-inch drive with USB 3.0, hardware AES-256 encryption via WD Security software, and a three-year warranty, per the WD product overview. Over the Elements Portable it adds the encryption, a five-color design, and WD Backup software — the price premium is mostly the software bundle and warranty. It is the default pick when the backup drive will travel and the extra year of warranty matters.
Prices exclude GST/HST.

- Password protection with hardware encryption, available in a range of colour options.
- Owners find it compact and light for the capacity.
- Owners report quiet operation and transfer speeds around 110 to 120 MB/s.
- Setup is easy and the drive is recognized quickly by computers.
Commonly criticised
- Performance did not improve over the previous version, which was largely a visual refresh.
- The glossy surface smudges easily, and it is nowhere near solid-state speeds for large files.
- Owners report the drive gets hot during large transfers, with one saying it shut down without warning.
- The drive-side connector is described as fragile-looking, so owners unplug it carefully.
- One owner reports far slower transfers than expected, and another a cable that did not fit their Mac.
