WD Blue 3.5-inch HDD Spec and Price in Canada
WD's Blue line is the value 3.5-inch drive: the 1TB SKU spins at 7200rpm with a 64MB cache while the larger capacities drop to 5400rpm with a 256MB cache to trade throughput for capacity and quieter operation, per the WD product brief. The 2-6TB SKUs tracked here (WD*EZAZ) use device-managed SMR — WD sells CMR twins (WD*EZAX) at the same capacities — so for sustained random writes a CMR drive is the safer pick. It carries a two-year warranty and is the default bulk-storage upgrade for desktop builds that just need space.

What owners and reviewers say
Summarised from 2 source(s), reviewed September 13, 2026. A source is counted only where it names this model exactly. How we track prices
Commonly praised
- Costs less than an equivalent solid-state drive while offering high desktop capacity.
- Delivered excellent real-world media-centre performance, ahead of the competing drive.
- Owners report quiet operation and cool running, even under load.
- Sequential transfer speeds and boot times are described as strong for a 7200rpm 1TB drive, with several owners benchmarking above 130 MB/s.
- Owners call it a price-performance sweet spot for a secondary or bulk-storage drive.
Commonly criticised
- Synthetic benchmark results were mixed and generally weaker than the direct competitor.
- Trailed in the read-intensive gaming trace.
- Access times measure slower than other 7200rpm drives, which owners say makes it a poor choice as a primary OS drive.
- The two-year warranty is considered short.
- One owner reports the drive dying suddenly with no SMART warning after nine months.
