Samsung T9 Spec and Price in Canada

USB2TB2000 MB/s read

Released October 3, 2023 ·

The T9 is the only drive in Samsung's portable line to use USB 3.2 Gen 2x2, and that doubled 20 Gbps link is what takes sequential read to 2,000 MB/s where the T7 and the T7 Shield stop at 1,050. Write is the one spec that moves across capacities: 1,950 MB/s at 1TB and 2TB, 2,000 MB/s at 4TB, per the datasheet's own per-capacity row. It also carries a five-year limited warranty rather than the three years the rest of the portable line gets, and it launched in October 2023 at a $239.99 MSRP for the 2TB.

Tied 81st of 106 models in the SSD catalog on Sequential read — 3 models share this figure. 74th of 106 models in the SSD catalog on Sequential write.

What owners and reviewers say

Summarised from 2 source(s), reviewed September 13, 2026. A source is counted only where it names this model exactly. How we track prices

Commonly praised

  • Reviewers measured high-speed transfers that roughly double its predecessor's, aided by the write cache for large files.
  • They highlight its aluminium body with a rubberised grip, the bundled management software, and notable gains over the prior model in build and thermals.
  • Owners report fast read and write speeds and much shorter backup times.
  • It is described as easy to set up and use, small and portable, and capable of editing video directly from the drive.
  • Several owners call it good value, especially when bought on sale.

Commonly criticised

  • It trails the leading USB portable SSDs in essentially every benchmark.
  • At review time its pricing made rival drives more compelling.
  • Multiple owners report transfer speeds well below the advertised figures, including roughly half the expected speed on newer Macs.
  • One owner notes it runs warmer than other SSDs, though without concern.
