WD Elements Portable Spec and Price in France
WD Elements Portable is the 2.5-inch sibling of the Elements desktop line: a bus-powered drive with USB 3.0, no software, and a two-year warranty, per the WD product overview. Bus power is the selling point — no wall adapter, so it works off a laptop's USB port — and 2.5-inch mechanics keep it slower than a desktop drive. It is the default cheap portable backup drive at 1-5TB, and the enclosure is not user-serviceable.

What owners and reviewers say
Summarised from 2 source(s), reviewed September 13, 2026. A source is counted only where it names this model exactly. How we track prices
Commonly praised
- Offers a lot of storage for a very low price, and its simple, feature-free design works with computers, consoles and media players.
- Compact enough to slip into a pocket, with adequate real-world speeds for backup and playback.
- Owners find it small, light and bus-powered, and easy to carry.
- Setup is plug-and-play, and owners report no proprietary interface, including on Linux.
- Owners report quiet, reliable operation in regular backup use, with sustained transfers around 100 MB/s.
Commonly criticised
- Bundled backup software is only a trial, with no encryption or password protection, and only a one-year warranty.
- Transfer speeds trail the rival drive by roughly 20MB/s.
- Owners describe the plastic housing as flexing under light pressure, so it is not considered suitable for a bag.
- One owner reports the drive stopped being recognized within two weeks.
