Ryzen 9 7900X Spec and Price in the United Kingdom

AM512 cores / 24 threads

Released September 27, 2022 ·

A twelve-core, 24-thread step down from the 7950X that keeps the same 170W TDP and 64MB of L3 cache while boosting to 5.6GHz from a 4.7GHz base. The higher base clock than the 16-core flagship suits workloads that don't scale past twelve threads. Unlocked for overclocking and sold without a bundled cooler, on the same AM5, DDR5 platform as the rest of the 7000 series.

Tied 10th of 65 models in the CPU catalog on Boost clock — 7 models share this figure. Tied 17th of 65 models in the CPU catalog on L3 cache — 7 models share this figure.

What owners and reviewers say

Summarised from 2 source(s), reviewed September 13, 2026. A source is counted only where it names this model exactly. How we track prices

Commonly praised

  • Impressive improvements across the board, with great gaming performance.
  • PCIe 5.0 support, integrated graphics, an unlocked multiplier, and no E-cores to complicate scheduling.
  • Owners describe it as very fast for both gaming and heavy productivity workloads.
  • It is reported as a large upgrade from older processors, and it responds well to PBO and Curve Optimizer tuning.

Commonly criticised

  • A high total platform cost, with demanding cooling needs at high temperatures.
  • The second core complex runs at lower clocks, and communication between the two costs a little performance in some workloads.
  • By default it targets a 95C thermal limit, and owners say it needs strong cooling.
  • The AM5 platform is called expensive, with high motherboard and DDR5 costs at launch.
  • One owner reports higher idle power than an older AM4 system.
